SUMMARY:Engaging Students with Hypothesis Social Annotation
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Samantha Chang\, Faculty Liaison Coordinator\, Teaching\, Learning & Technology\, CTSIJessica George\, Customer Success Manager\, Hypothesis – West RegionAdding social annotation to course readings can help students develop essential critical thinking skills. In this interactive and hands-on session\, Jessica George from Hypothesis will discuss how you can implement collaborative annotation with Hypothesis to make student reading visible\, active\, and social. In addition to sharing pedagogical best practices for collaborative annotation\, we will demonstrate how Hypothesis can be used with course readings in Quercus. You will have the opportunity to try out annotating with Hypothesis. We will close by providing and discussing sample assignments that you can adapt for your own courses. You can expect to come away from this session with a clear idea about how you can start incorporating collaborative annotation into your courses.

SUMMARY:Generative AI Assessment Design Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Victoria Sheldon\, Faculty Liaison Coordinator\, Generative AI Pedagogies\, CTSI Cora McCloy\, Faculty Liaison Coordinator\, SoTL\, CTSI Building on the foundation laid in our first workshop\, this hands-on session focuses on translating reimagined learning outcomes into practical\, AI-aware assessments. As we navigate the evolving landscape of education in the age of generative AI\, it is important to align our assessment strategies with the distinctly human skills and AI literacy we aim to foster. In this interactive\, in-person workshop\, instructors will work collaboratively in small groups to revise and develop assessments that reflect their updated learning outcomes. We will explore innovative approaches to assessment that not only acknowledge the presence of AI tools but may also leverage them to support student learning. Participants will: • Analyze real-world examples of AI-aware assessments submitted by University of Toronto instructors  • Engage in guided exercises to redesign their own course assessments\, emphasizing critical thinking\, creativity\, and ethical AI use • Learn strategies for crafting assignments that promote human-AI collaboration while maintaining academic integrity • Develop rubrics that prioritize the evaluation of uniquely human skills By the end of this workshop\, instructors will have developed practical\, tailored assessment ideas that they can refine and implement in their courses. Join us for this collaborative session as you take the next step in adapting your teaching practice in light of generative AI capabilities. This webinar is Part 2 of the CTSI GenAI Workshop Series – Designing for Powerful Learning in the Age of GenAI (https://teaching.utoronto.ca/teaching-uoft-genai/genai-programming/).
