This workshop is intended for those who are intrigued by AI but may feel cautious about trying it out. We will demonstrate and practice with two AI tools available from Microsoft and Contact North. Learn to navigate these platforms while protecting your data\, as we generate examples and explore practical student course activity use cases to support teaching needs.  SPECIAL NOTE: During the session we will introduce the MS CoPilot and Contact North tools\, which will overlap with some of the content presented in Sandbox 1 (Feb. 12\, 2024). Participants are requested to bring with them a laptop to this session and download the Microsoft Edge browser (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/download?ch=1&form=MA13FJ) on the device (if not already installed) in order to participate in full. Cell phones and tablets will not suffice for full participation in this session.  We also suggest you read the CTSI Teaching with Generative AI at U of T\, Tips To Get You Started (https://teaching.utoronto.ca/teaching-uoft-genai/ai-primer/) page.

SUMMARY:ACUE Lunch and Learn - Beyond Kahoot....Reflections and Ideas from an Edu-trainer on When and How to Gamify your Classroom!
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Dr J. Laprade\, Associate Professor\, Teaching Stream\, Division of AnatomyGamification is gaining more attention and\, dare we say\, becoming trendy over the recent years. As a result\, educators gamely (see what I did there?) attempt to implement gamification with varying success and often missing the mark for acquisition of knowledge and resulting in only entertainment. Building on ACUE topics and resources such as the Active Learning Cycle and Checking for Student Understanding\, ideally the incorporation of game features in class is done in a purposeful manner to underscore learning at best and at worst\, enhance student engagement. From 20 years of trial and error\, and lessons learned\, I share practical examples in addition to several resources to allow anyone to incorporate at least one gamified approach to learning or engagement. Come ready to play!ACUE Lunch and Learn faculty facilitators have completed 25 modules and earned the Certificate in Effective University Instruction (https://teaching.utoronto.ca/certificate-in-effective-university-instruction/) offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) in partnership with CTSI.
