DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Centre for Community Partnership \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOur peer-led Community of Practice Gatherings offer community-engaged learning (CEL) instructors a recurring conversation space to share best practices\, troubleshoot\, discuss relevant literature\, and collaborate on CEL teaching-related issues. Each gathering is facilitated by a different faculty member\, who shares a challenge\, a case study\, an article or other resource to catalyze discussion.  \n\n\n\nJoin us for a discussion on How to Teach a CEL Course Sustainably. Since this is one of the more time-consuming aspects of developing flipped classroom lectures\, it opens the door for more people to utilize this technique. In this presentation I will go through the results of a 3-year study investigating the use of flipped classroom lectures in my fourth-year mineral deposits course. We will review how the lectures were designed and implemented and assess the effectiveness of the technique using a combination of student feedback forms\, comparative results exam questions\, and post course interviews.Understanding How Students Perceive Online Language LearningYujeong Choi\, Assistant Professor\, Teaching Stream\, East Asian StudiesYasuyo Tomita\, Sessional Lecturer\, OISE (Winter 2023)Kyoungrok Ko\, Associate Professor\, Teaching Stream\, East Asian StudiesIn second language acquisition (SLA)\, research has shown that learning achievement is closely associated with satisfaction (Palmer & Holt\, 2009). It is widely believed that learner satisfaction in the learning process\, as well as achievement\, is important but lower in online courses (Russell & Murphy-Judy\, 2021). There has been little research conducted on online language learning and student satisfaction in an online-only context. This study explores the perceptions of learners about online language learning\, especially satisfaction\, during the recent pandemic that necessitated online learning.Register via Zoom   The Faculty of Arts & Science Teaching & Learning Community of Practice (CoP) was established in 2015 to create a collegial forum for faculty and instructors to meet and share teaching practices and strategies across fields and disciplines. SUMMARY:Demystifying the Dossier: Looking Ahead: Identifying & Articulating Teaching Success
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Megan Burnett\, Associate Director\, CTSI Kelly Gordon\, Coordinator\, Programs & Strategic Initiatives\, CTSI OnlineAt the University of Toronto\, a teaching dossier must be submitted as part of the formal review process for tenure and continuing status. Beyond the information included in an academic CV\, a teaching dossier describes and documents an instructor’s teaching expertise\, goals and priorities for teaching and learning. It also highlights personal contributions to course and curriculum design efforts in a department or program\, evidence of student impact\, and evidence of teaching leadership.  This session offers practical tips on how to produce\, document\, collect and reflect on the materials necessary for the compilation of an effective teaching dossier – including gathering\, framing and acting on student feedback and tracking and honing teaching materials – with a particular focus on professional development and educational leadership. This workshop will not focus on how to draft the actual dossier; rather\, we will examine strategies for ensuring that you are ready to prepare a dossier when the time comes. Participants in this workshop will: • Identify practices for reflecting on teaching development and educational leadership • Develop a framework for approaching the collection of teaching-related data\, the organization of these data and synthesis of key dossier elements • Practice articulating key aspects of your teaching and educational leadership through writing and discussion• Consider when and how to document your teaching in line with the regular cycle of your work • Identify how to get started with professional development focussed on teaching In preparation for this webinar\, participants will be provided with a digital workbook prior to the webinar and asked to complete a set of brief pre-work activities and reflections. This work will be taken up in the live webinar and will form the basis of the online workshop activities.

This presents challenges for students who fall behind\, requiring them to catch up with previous material before continuing. To address this challenge\, we piloted a self-paced mastery learning version of CSC108 in Winter 2018 and again in Winter 2019. In this session\, we’ll share our reflections and lessons learned from offering a mastery learning version of a large introductory course at U of T\, including the need for explicit scaffolding of expected progress and resources required to simultaneously support students at different stages in the course.   \n\n\n\nThe Faculty of Arts & Science Teaching & Learning Community of Practice (CoP) was established in 2015 to create a collegial forum for faculty and instructors to meet and share teaching practices and strategies across fields and disciplines. DESCRIPTION:A Faculty of Arts & Science Teaching and Learning Community of Practice with Samantha-Jo Caetano\, Assistant Professor\, Teaching Stream\, Statistical Sciences \n\n\n\nRegister via Zoom \n\n\n\nEthical professional practice is of vital importance in data work and is a program learning outcome in the Department of Statistical Sciences. In practice\, there are challenges in ensuring it is taught and engaged with authentically at all levels of our undergraduate curriculum. Six courses and our career education and mentoring staff portfolios were identified as key to this learning outcome.
