Or perhaps you are interested in developing teaching materials that all students can access? Celebrate Open Education Week (https://oeweek.oeglobal.org/) and learn how Open Educational Resources (OER) can be optimized for instructional use in this interactive workshop. OER reduces the financial barrier to access materials for students while also strengthening student engagement and learning. You will be introduced to what OER is in comparison to other ‘free’ materials\, unpack the meaning of Creative Commons licensing when using OER\, practice attributing open resources like images\, find and assess OER that you can use in your teaching\, and last discuss how you can contribute to the OER community.  By the end of the session you will: • define open educational resources (OER) • identify the different types of Creative Commons licenses and what each allows/does not allow for the use of an OER • correctly attribute open resource such as images that may be used in presentations • locate OER including open textbooks\, lab/activity materials\, lesson plans\, lectures\, and more • discuss the challenges and benefits of using OER in your teaching  • assess how you will use OER in your own teaching such as adopt\, adapt\, create\, and contribute

DESCRIPTION:Vendor: Gradescope (Turnitin)The University is currently conducting a procurement process to select one or more Online Grading Solutions. Online grading solutions allow instructors and their teaching assistants to grade assignments and exams digitally\, even in cases where the student submissions are hand-written. There is an ongoing desire amongst University  instructors to use these kinds of tools to improve the efficacy and consistency of grading\, especially when multiple graders are working on the same assessment artefact. Ideally\, these solutions can be integrated seamlessly with Quercus in the University’s Academic Toolbox. As part of the process\, members of the UofT community are invited to attend presentations and demonstrations by short-listed suppliers. After these presentations\, attendees will be invited to give feedback to the evaluation committee. \nPlease note that each vendor will be demonstrating their wares twice to accommodate as many attendees as possible; there is no need to sign up for more than one session per vendor. DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Toula Kourgiantakis\, Assistant Professor\, Teaching Stream\, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social WorkJoin U of T faculty graduates of the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Effective Teaching Practices course (ACUE-Certified Faculty) as they share insights from the 25 modules they completed over several months. They implemented\, reimagined\, and extended evidence-based teaching practices to support their teaching\, learning and student success at U of T. This Series invites participants to hear from these instructors: their reflections upon what they have learned\, and practical examples and tips informed by evidence-based strategies. Facilitators will engage in discussions on sharing these approaches into one’s current practice.In this workshop\, Professor Toula Kourgiantakis will discuss her ongoing learning on how to incorporate equity\, diversity\, inclusion\, and accessibility (EDIA) in the classroom to have meaningful and transformative learning experiences. Professor Kourgiantakis will focus on three areas that have enhanced her teaching: 1) knowing oneself and how that is reflected in what we teach and how we teach\, 2) building relationships with students and a sense of community in the classroom\, and 3) incorporating EDIA in the course design and syllabus. Professor Kourgiantakis will give specific examples on how each area impacts creating more inclusive classroom space and more positive teaching and learning experiences.

SUMMARY:Demystifying the Dossier: Preparing the Teaching Dossier
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators:  Cora McCloy\, PhD\, Faculty Liaison Coordinator\, SoTL\, CTSI  Kyle Turner\, MSc\, Faculty Liaison\, Teaching and Learning\, CTSI This webinar is part of the Demystifying the Dossier Series. Faculty are welcome to attend one or multiple workshops in the series; recordings will be available for all sessions online (https://teachingdev.lamp4.utoronto.ca/resources/quercus-videos-and-workshop-recordings/).  At the University of Toronto\, a teaching dossier must be submitted as part of the formal review process for tenure and continuing status. Beyond the information included in an academic CV\, a teaching dossier describes and documents an instructor’s teaching expertise\, goals and priorities for teaching and learning\, contributions to course and curriculum design efforts\, evidence of student impact\, and evidence of teaching leadership.  This session focuses on an overview of the content and overall structure of an effective teaching dossier. Participants will develop a plan for assembling and strengthening their own dossiers. They will be guided in how to use a narrative throughout their dossier to connect and create coherence between multiple sections and sources of evidence.  Participants will also have an opportunity to engage with their divisional guidelines to draft key headings for their dossier.  Participants in this workshop will:  • Engage with your own Divisional Guidelines on Teaching Effectiveness to map out key criteria • Identify the key elements of your dossier and artifacts for inclusion • Assess alignment between your teaching claims and evidence\, and identify effective ways to frame evidence • Plan steps for editing your developing narrative and preparing your final document The goal is for participants to leave the session with a clear sense of what steps to take to enhance their dossier drafts. Participants will be provided a digital workbook prior to the webinar and this document will form the basis of the session activities. Please note that this webinar will focus on the preparation of a teaching dossier by appointed faculty members for the purposes of undergoing a review process (tenure or continuing status). Teaching dossiers prepared for job searches carry different expectations and will not be the focus of this session.
