SUMMARY:UDL Express: MOVE into Accessibility: Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Looking for simple\, high-impact ways to make your course materials more accessible and welcoming? Join us for UDL Express: MOVE into Accessibility\, a hands-on summer webinar series designed to support small\, meaningful improvements in digital course content. This four-part series introduces the MOVE framework—Meaning\, Organization\, Versatility\, and Engagement—as a set of purpose-first design checks that help reduce common barriers to learning. Rather than focusing on tools alone\, MOVE invites instructors to reflect on design intent and make one practical improvement to their course materials that can be applied immediately. Each 30-minute session focuses on one element of the MOVE framework\, with examples drawn from Word documents\, PowerPoint slides\, and Quercus course spaces. Sessions combine brief demonstrations with guided time to work on participants’ own materials\, so you leave having made a real accessibility improvement—not just with ideas for later. Whether you’re revising a course syllabus\, refreshing lecture slides\, or preparing Quercus materials\, this series offers approachable strategies that support accessibility and inclusion for a wide range of learners. Session Schedule and Topics• Meaning: Make intent clear. Focus on clarity and purpose through descriptive links\, meaningful alt text\, plain language\, and captions or transcripts that add context. (Thursday\, May 28\, 11:30 am to 12 pm (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6504))• Organization: Make the structure obvious. Use built-in heading styles\, chunking\, true lists\, and clear page or module overviews to support navigation and comprehension. (Thursday\, June 11\, 11:30 am to 12 pm (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6507))• Versatility: Make materials work across contexts. Check contrast\, captions\, file formats\, and mobile usability so course materials function well across devices\, tools\, and learning environments. (Thursday\, June 25\, 11:30 am to 12 pm (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6508))• Engagement: Make learning welcoming and motivating. Incorporate inclusive examples\, small choices\, and brief reflection prompts that invite participation and support learner connection. (Thursday\, July 9\, 11:30 am to 12 pm) Learning Outcomes By the end of this series\, participants will be able to: • Identify four key design checks for accessible and inclusive course materials using the MOVE framework. • Apply quick\, high-impact improvements to digital content in Word\, PowerPoint\, and Quercus. • Make purposeful design decisions in course materials that reduce barriers and support learner engagement.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Cogniti: U of T’s AI Tool to Support Student Learning
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Jordan Holmes\, Senior Manager\, Teaching\, Learning\, and Technology\, CTSIResearch shows that generative AI tool design matters for learning. The OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026 (https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/oecd-digital-education-outlook-2026_062a7394-en.html) finds that AI tools with clear educational guardrails may support learning outcomes\, while unstructured use of AI risks becoming a shortcut that may hamper genuine learning gains.  Through Cogniti\, U of T is giving instructors control over how AI is used for learning. Cogniti is an AI platform embedded directly in Quercus — no separate accounts required — that lets you shape AI interactions around your course content\, your learning objectives\, and your pedagogical approach\, with built-in safety features to protect student wellbeing. In this session\, you’ll explore how Cogniti enables you to: • Deploy course-specific generative AI learning experiences in Quercus that reflect your syllabus\, learning objectives\, and content • Guide students toward productive learning rather than answer-seeking • Monitor how students are engaging with AI in your course Whether you’re curious about AI’s potential\, concerned about its risks\, or ready to experiment\, we’ll work through how Cogniti can fit within your teaching context. More CTSI Cogniti Programming (https://teaching.utoronto.ca/teaching-uoft-genai/genai-programming/)

SUMMARY:Tune into Teaching: Accommodating Students: A Workshop for Instructors
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Michael Nicholson\, Director of Accessibility Services Sarah Kloke\, Assistant Director of Accessibility Services  Reginald (Reggie) Oey\, Accessible and Inclusive Learning Team Lead Unsure where your responsibilities begin and end when supporting students with disability-related accommodation needs? Looking for practical strategies to navigate implementation challenges while maintaining course integrity? Interested in understanding when to act independently and when to collaborate with Accessibility Services? In this session\, Accessibility Services will clarify the instructor’s role within the accommodation process\, including how accommodations are developed\, communicated\, and implemented under the duty to accommodate. The session will highlight key distinctions between accommodations and academic consideration\, and between inclusive course design (UDL) and individualized supports. Participants will explore common pressure points such as extensions\, notetaking\, testing\, and participation\, using case examples to demonstrate how to balance access with essential learning outcomes through collaborative problem-solving.

SUMMARY:UDL in Practice: Designing Methods
DESCRIPTION:UDL in Practice is a monthly professional learning series hosted by the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI). These 30-minute sessions explore small\, practical strategies for inclusive course design through a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach. Each session focuses on a specific area of course design\, such as methods\, materials\, environments\, access\, support\, or executive function\, and invites participants to reflect on teaching practices\, explore examples\, and discuss strategies that can be adapted across different teaching contexts. Sessions are conversational and community-oriented\, with an emphasis on practical ideas instructors can try in their own courses.Attend one session or join throughout the year. Each session stands on its own while contributing to a broader conversation about inclusive and accessible teaching. Insights and strategies generated through the series may later be incorporated into CTSI’s UDL Strategy Libraries (https://teaching.utoronto.ca/teaching-uoft-udl/udl-practice/).UDL in Practice SeriesDesigning Methods (September 18\, 2026) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6992)Designing Materials (October 16\, 2026) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6993)Designing Environments (November 20\, 2026) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6994)Designing for Access (January 15\, 2027) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6995)Designing for Support (February 19\, 2027) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6996)Designing for Executive Function (March 19\, 2027) (https://ctsi.eve.utoronto.ca/home/events/6997)
