SUMMARY:CTSI Equity Roundtable - Rethinking Professionalism: Embedding Equity\, Diversity\, and Anti-Oppressive Practices in Healthcare Education
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators:Jaris Swidrovich\, Assistant Professor\, Teaching Stream\, Indigenous Engagement Lead\, Leslie Dan Faculty of PharmacyM. Shone Joos\, Assistant Professor\, Teaching Stream\, Temerty Faculty of Medicine \nDescription:Join us for an open and engaging roundtable discussion where we will rethink the concept of professionalism through the lenses of equity\, diversity\, and anti-oppressive practices using examples from the health professions. Together\, we’ll explore how traditionally Western ideas and standards of professionalism may inadvertently reinforce power imbalances and marginalize diverse perspectives. Through participant-driven discussions and shared curiosity\, we will critically examine ways to foster an inclusive\, socially responsive professional culture. This roundtable invites you to share your experiences\, ask questions\, and collaboratively develop strategies to promote equity and actively challenge traditional notions of professionalism in healthcare education that honours the identities\, experiences\, and rights of healthcare providers\, patients\, faculty and students.
