SUMMARY:Creating Equitable Classrooms: Change Beyond Equity
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Máiri McKenna Edwards\, (pronounced mar-ee) she/her\, Coordinator\, Diversity\, Equity & Student Experience\, Department of Curriculum Teaching & Learning\, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education \nSimply put\, equity is not enough. Equity focuses on bringing people into a system and can result in little to no meaningful change in a system. It can even result in more harm under the guise of equity.  So\, what does that mean for those of us who want to be involved in systemic change? In this discussion\, we will come together in community to think about these issues and do some personal reflection on both what we DO know and what we do NOT. Finally\, we’ll think together and PLAN our way to be in ACTION in both our classrooms and within systems where we CAN ACT.
